Nick Brendon is in the spotlight again, but not for his acting. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star was found to be drunk and disorderly on Wednesday night. Read the short story below. It saddens me to see him like this, I just hope that he gets help.

Luke... An Update !

Posted on 2009.06.22 at 13:15
Just as the title suggests, this is an update on Luke.

As you may have noticed I have been a little thin on the ground, internet wise. This is because several things are happening at once and it makes for a busy me.

First off, I have had a new Social Worker assigned to my son and she is amazing! Firstly, she talked over the situation as she saw it and started ringing around to get Luke the help he needed. She said that yes, it will take a while for us to get the results of said calls and for the aid and help to come through. But weeks later, we are getting there.

Firstly, the school are being better regarding his sleep problem. They accept the fact that my son has a disorder and are even supporting us by sending letters etc out so that we can get Luke into a sleep disorder clinic.

Which brings me to the second part of what my social worker has managed to do. Teamed with the local district nurse, my social worker has managed to get the funding pushed through so that Luke can attend a sleep disorder clinic. There, they will treat, diagnose and help get Luke into a regular sleep routine and if he needs it, they will start him on any medication he needs. If his sleep disorder is caused by something else, like adhd, they will diagnose it and he will start treatments for it. I'm not sure what they will do about his night terrors or his sleep walking, but if anyone knows how to deal with them, they will. We are now just waiting for the letter that will tell us when he will start attending the clinic. It will mean he has to stay at the clinic monday to friday and return only home for weekends. I am worried about how it will affect Luke, but it will be worth it if it helps Luke in the long run.

We have also been given routines to try and see if they help Luke, as autism means routines are highly important to a child like Luke . Deviating from them can cause all sorts of behavior problems. This keeps me busy and has restructured my days and some nights. The whole family has had to adjust as well, and this has bought about a few problems, but nothing too bad.

The part that has helped the most, was the social worker recognizing the fact that I was exhausted and suffering from depression. The exhaustion was bad, and while I suffered from it, I was not going to drag my ass out of the depression. It was a vicious circle and I have managed to break it, so far. There are days when I feel down and just as tired as I used to but they are few and far between now.

So, now its just a case of wait and see how the clinic and everything else works out. Luke is excited to be starting at his new school in september and he understands that this new school is specifically for children that suffer from Autism in one form or another.

I am looking forward to July 3rd..... a weekend in London with friends :) A chance to unwind, have fun and generally misbehave ....

This just in!!!

June 17-21.

Theatre Works Box Office at (310) 827-0889 or go to www.latw.org.

This final play from the pen of Oscar Wilde is a stylish send-up of Victorian courtship and manners, complete with assumed names, mistaken lovers and a lost handbag. Jack (James Marsters) and Algernon are best friends, both wooing ladies who think their names are Ernest, "that name which inspires absolute confidence." Wilde's effervescent wit, scathing social satire and high farce make this one of the most cherished plays in the English language. Actor, playwright, novelist, screenwriter, director and drag legend Charles Busch takes on the role of the irrepressible Lady Bracknell. All performances are recorded for broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theater series, which broadcasts locally on 89.3 KPCC and can be streamed on demand at www.latw.org.

Disabled Presenter For CBBC Childrens T.V Causes Uproar

This was taken from Yahoo news.:-

Cerrie Burnell, who was born with one arm, began co-presenting Cbeebies 'Do And Discover' slot with Alex Winters last month. She has a broad range of success as an actor, both in the theatre and on television.

But parents on online forums have claimed she 'frightens' their children. In an online forum, poster Barry wrote: "Is it just me, or does anyone else think the new woman presenter on Cbeebies, Cerrie Burnell may scare the kids because of her disability? I didn't want to let my children watch the filler bits on the bedtime hour last night because I know it would have played on my eldest daughter's mind and possibly caused sleep problems... and yes, this is a serious post."

Other posters suggest the BBC employed Miss Burnell to 'score points' and accused the channel of positive discrimination.

Sue Stokes, from the charity Reach, said they were appalled by the negative reaction. "We are appalled that parents are talking on behalf of their children," she said. "Children don't notice the differences. The parents need to think about how they would feel if it were their child born without an arm. It is great for children with disabilities to see people like them on the television."

A BBC spokesman said nine official complaints had been made about Miss Burnell, who has a four-month-old daughter.

CBeebies controller Michael Carrington said she is 'warm and natural'. "It's a big ask to entertain millions of children every day," he said. "We think that in time all mums and dads and children will love her as much as we do."

Miss Burnell was disappointed by the criticism but welcomed the discussion. "It can only be a good thing that parents are using me as a chance to talk disability with their children," she said. "It just goes to show how important it is to have positive disabled role models on CBeebies and television in general."

I am appauled by this and I applaud the BBC for employing Miss Burnell and for standing behind her. For those parents of children who may not have seen or had contact with anyone with a disability , this is an opportunity to talk to them and explain that there are men, women and children that have physical differences to them. Not to show such blatant discrimination.

In my opinion , these parents that are going on these forums and have expressed negative views regarding Miss Burnell are narrow minded and are probably pushing their discomfort at seeing a disabled presenter, onto their children.
